Xlure Check Point RF trap for the red palm weevil
Check Point is a plastic trap that is ideal for the outdoor monitoring of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (red palm weevil). Water must be introduced inside the transparent plastic bucket in order to detain the insect once it is caught. Aggregation pheromone specifically for Rhynchophorus ferrugineus can be placed at the centre of the lid. While searching for an effective palm treatment method, monitoring this insect is a valid method to quickly spot the presence of an infestation in a determinate place and to evaluate if the corrective actions taken on the palm trees (cutting down the tree, chemical treament) have been successful. In Asian regions, where this insect comes from, mass trapping strategies using these pheromones are taking place. The trap must be covered by a net so that the red palm weevil can climb into the trap.
